Shiro "el Arriero" Otake, a New York based guitarist, was heard in a special joint concert at the Argentine Embassy in Tokyo.
The program feacured Otake's own highly impressive compositions, including “Zamba de Pepe”, a work dedicated to his beloved dog who died in 1994, and his "Bachianas Argentinas Suite."
“Bachianas Argentinas” has become Otake's signature work and is a marverous blend of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in concert with the poetry of Atahualpa Yupanqui, the legendary Argentine guitarist/composer.
Today's audience was completely captivated by the extraordinary originality of Otake's music.
"Bachianas Argentinas VIII" and his "Hiroshima,La Ciudad Que No Olvido" are based on poems by Atahualpa Yupanqui, and for this, he was joined by the Japanese actress Kyoko Kagawa, who gave a deeply moving reading of both works.
It was a stunning concert and one which clearly demostrated Otake's profund love and understanding of the music of and the work of Atahualpa Yupanqui, who has been inspiration to him throughout his life.
